Kit Carson and The Scouts, 2010 at the Tanana Valley State Fair in Fairbanks. Right to left: Kit Carson, Guitar/Vocals; Fred Weiss, Bass/Vocals; Mel Birch, Mandolin/Vocals.
This band played a mix of bluegrass, country, rock and original music. They performed at the Fairbanks Folk Fest, Anderson Bluegrass Festival; Talkeetna Bluegrass Festival and many other venues in Interior Alaska.
Below are some recorded samples of their music. Due to copyright regulations, these tunes may not be downloaded. We hope you enjoy them!
Dimming of the Day
PipelineComposed by Bob Spickard and Brian Carman, the most famous version of this classic surf tune was recorded by The Ventures. We always got looks of surprise when we played this song live, probably because of it being played on acoustic instruments. This recording was made at Mel's Modern-Music Studios.
Kit, Fred and Mel are all involved in other projects, and are no-longer actively performing as Kit Carson and the Scouts...
However, you never know what happens with crazy musicians. If you have an event you'd like The Scouts to play, give us a shout!
